University to Provide Live Streaming Video for 
Undergraduate and Doctoral Commencement on May 18

Western New England University will hold its 2013 Undergraduate and Doctoral Commencement on Saturday, May 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the Alumni Healthful Living Center. The ceremony will include the awarding of approximately 580 bachelor’s degrees and eight doctoral degrees. Live streaming video of the event will be offered through a link on the University’s Commencement page: visit this site shortly before the ceremony.

Dr. Alan Chartock, president and CEO of WAMC Northeast Public Radio, will deliver the commencement address. Chartock is a broadcaster, educator, syndicated columnist, newspaper publisher, and musician. As both educator and entrepreneur, Chartock established Western New England University as WAMC/Northeast Public Radio’s Springfield Bureau. In this unique partnership, students produce news segments for the station.

Commissioning Ceremony on Campus

University Students Host Project Coach, Including
Exec. Dir. Kayleigh Colombero G’12, at Banquet

On May 8, six University students who participated in the Center for International Sport Business’s Seminar Abroad 2012: London Olympics program hosted Project Coach at its annual spring banquet. Project Coach is a Smith-College based program that teaches high school students from Springfield’s North End to be sport-life coaches for hundreds of elementary school children in the city’s urban center. Pictured are Paul Smith ’13 (left) and Jay Thall ’13 (right) presenting a $305 check on behalf of the Sport Management Association (SMA) to Project Coach executive director Kayleigh Colombero G ’12 and coaches in the organization Joseph Wray and Loeb Rosario.

Students and Alumni Receive Recognition at 
Grinspoon Entrepreneurship Awards Banquet

Western New England University was well represented at the Grinspoon Entrepreneurship Awards Banquet that took place on April 24 at the Log Cabin in Holyoke, MA. During the event, three students and one recent graduate, Martin Payne ’12, received awards for their business concepts and one took home second place in the Elevator Pitch Competition. In addition, Stanley Kowalski III ’92, Board Chairman of FloDesign, delivered the keynote address: the 2009 Alumnus of the Year told students to never ever give up  and “pursue your dreams.”
