Caprio at presidential gatherings in New York, Boston, Hartford, Florida, Springfield, and Rhode Island last fall and winter, along with this spring. Selected for Valley Venture Mentors’ Accelerator Program

Two alumni were among four teams of entrepreneurs from Western New England University chosen to take part in the Valley Venture Mentors’ (VVM) Accelerator Program, a non-profit that fast tracks the growth and success of startups and early stage companies by providing expertise and funding. The teams selected were Name Net Worth, founded by Shaun McGrady ’03/G’09 (left) ; GovBizConnect, founded by Tom Skypek ’05 (right); Wine Somme; and AnyCafé.

Work by FloDesign Sonics at White House Water Summit

The White House Water Summit on March 22 addressed global water issues and focused attention on the vital work being done by such innovative companies as FloDesign Sonics. Jason Dionne ’07/G’15, a founding engineer at the company, is pictured on the left with U.S. Chief Technology Officer Megan Smith. FloDesign Sonics is based in Wilbraham MA and is headed by chairman and CEO Stan Kowalski III ’92. The engineering company specializes in applying aerospace technology designs to a wide range of products.

WNEK Changes Its Frequency in 1981

Pictured is Mike Netkovick ’80 playing music for WNEK-FM radio listeners. In 1981, Western New England College’s official campus radio station—then located on the second floor of Berkshire Hall—became the first college radio station in the northeast to move into the commercial band. WNEK modulated from 89.1 to 97.5. The station received a new antenna from Phelps-Dodge Communications Company in Marlboro, N.J., which helped it broaden its range of listeners to more than just on-campus students: its programming was heard from a little beyond a ten-mile radius. Western New England’s Second Computer
