Iman Shehemi

Accounting and Finance

Iman Shehemi, from Feeding Hills, MA is a dual Accounting and Finance major who has been preparing for her career through four internships: at Brooks Brothers, Permastella, Fabbrica, and PricewaterhouseCoopers, the last of which has offered her a full-time auditing position in Hartford, CT once she completes her master’s degree in Accounting in the spring of 2019.

Iman’s academic accolades include the President’s List and Dean’s List, membership in the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Society, as well as being the recipient of the Emerging Leaders Scholarship. She has also been President of Alpha Beta Psi, which is the premier honor society for accounting and finance students, and treasurer of the Mortar Board honor society.

Indeed, her extracurricular activities have run the gamut including membership in the Accounting & Finance Speakers Club, Captain of the women’s soccer team, a member of Student Athlete Advisory Committee and Social Media Representative for Western New England Athletics.

Iman’s experience doesn’t end there. She has also been a Life Skills mentor and a supplemental instructor for introductory accounting classes. Iman says that Life Skills mentoring has given her the opportunity to have nearly a dozen First Year student-athletes under her wing to begin their first semester of college. This role entails meeting with them once a week and checks in on their academic, athletic, and personal progress. Mentoring has made her aware of how different everyone’s life is, and because the students may confide in their mentor for serious help they are seeking, Iman points out that one never knows the personal battles an individual is going through every day. Her experience as a mentor taught her how much potential she has to help people.

She says her role as a member of the women’s soccer team has helped her grow as a leader, both on and off the field. Last summer she played a major role in planning a team trip to Italy, which combined both athletic competition and educational experiences. Additionally, she organizes team events and off-season trainings, no small task when taking 24 players’ schedules into account.
