Baseball Alumni Day: April 12, 2014

On April 12, baseball alumni reunited at the varsity baseball doubleheader vs. Curry for a cookout hosted by parents of the current players. They saw the Golden Bears emerge victorious, 4-3 and 2-1. Following the games they attended a social at Samuel's in Springfield.

Alumni from the Boston area met at Dillon's in the Back Bay for an Alumni Networking Social on April 10, 2014. It was a unique opportunity to reconnect with some old friends and make some new ones—along with some new professional contacts. Guests included College of Arts of Sciences Dean Saeed Ghahramani.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes 5K Walk/Run and High Heel Walk: April 6, 2014

The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes 5K Walk/Run and High Heel Walk on April 6 included a High Heel Walk sponsored by the campus sexual assault awareness group One in Four, along with a 5K walk/run sponsored by the Alumni Association. Proceeds from registration went to the YWCA of Western Massachusetts, which provides services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. View the video!

The 6th Annual Coach Burns Scholarship/Bowling Alumni Tournament: April 5, 2014

At Shaker Bowl in East Longmeadow, MA on April 5, 19 bowlers participated and almost $2,000 was raised for the Coach Burns Scholarship. Rob Volk '02 bowled a perfect game! Yes, a 300 score! President's Alumni Reception: Hartford, CT, March 6, 2014

The host for the President's Alumni Reception in Hartford, CT, on March 6 was Trustee Neville Bogle ’75/G’81. The event, which took place at The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts, Autorino Great Hall, followed well-attended President's Alumni Receptions in St. Petersburg, FL, and Boynton Beach, FL, in February.

RealTest: March 7, 2014

On March 7, senior management students had the opportunity to network with alumni and receive guidance during RealTest, which was organized by the Department of Management and the College of Business with support from the Office of Alumni Relations. Students participated in a variety of business-related activities, including a team presentation on how they would handle a business situation based on three case studies. The alumni served as coaches and mentors for participating students.

Engineering Alumni Networking Dinner

On March 1, College of Engineering Alumni gathered at Rivers Memorial Hall for a Networking Dinner with professors, administrators, and students. Speaking at the event were College of Engineering Assistant Dean Richard Grabiec, Lou Masi '88, Lisa Murray '04, Kyle Pepin '13, and Alumni Relations Director Kathy Pappas G'98.

Men's and Women's Basketball Alumni Day: February 22, 2014

On February 22,  men's and women's basketball alumni enjoyed the opportunity to get together with former teammates and coaches at the Alumni Healthful Living Center. They took the court for alumni games, ate meals with fellow alumni, and watched varsity men's and women's Golden Bear basketball games vs. Endicott College.

President's Alumni Receptions in St. Petersburg, FL, on February 11 and in Boynton Beach, FL, on February 13, 2014

The hosts for the Presdient's Alumni Reception in St. Petersburg, which took place at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, were Barbara and Leonard McCue L’82. Philip Suomu G’83 hosted the Boynton Beach reception at Benvenuto Restaurant. The events followed a successful President's Alumni Reception in New York City last fall. Read the entire story.

North Pole Express Steam Train: December 7, 2013

More than 60 alumni, families, and friends boarded the North Pole Express in Essex, CT, on December 7 for a magical nighttime journey, complete with Santa and Mrs. Claus, sing-alongs, games, hot chocolate, and cookies. Passengers, many of them wearing pajamas, also enjoyed a live performance of The Night Before Christmas.

President's Reception in New York City: October 24, 2013

Alumni and friends in the New York City area heard firsthand about recent developments at Western New England during a President’s Reception on October 24 at The Terrace Club in Midtown Manhattan. President Anthony S. Caprio briefed guests on the latest news at the University, including capital projects. The host was Michael Borg L’88, a partner at the law firm Soffer, Rech, and Borg LLC.

Career Ready: Strategies for Success Seminar - October 23, 2013

Workshops presented were Resume Review, Networking Strategies, Entrepreneurship Workshop, Train Like an Athlete (Win that Job/Promotion), and Polishing Your Resume. This third annual free Educational Outreach Seminar was sponsored by the Alumni Association and organized by Olivia Mazzarella ’10, Volunteer Management Chair for the Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Cross Country Alumni Day: October 19, 2013

The WNE Invitational 8K on campus October 19 included 14 men's cross country alumni runners. The top former Golden Bear was Glen McManus '11 with a time of 30:27.18. The women's 5K included two alumni runners, with Emily Thomas '04 recording the top alumni time of 25:53.28.

Outstanding Young Alumni and Skookum Award Brunch: October 20, 2013

The Outstanding Young Alumni and Skookum Award Brunch took part at Rivers Memorial Hall on October 20. The word “Skookum” in the Chinook language means “excellence,” and awards were presented to 15 students who have demonstrated excellence in academics, cocurricular activities, athletics, volunteer work, and community service. Matt Caron '10, an anchor/reporter for WWLP-TV 22 News, received the Young Alumnus of the Year Award.

The Skookum Award was established in 1989 by the Alumni Association. This year’s 15 award recipients come from diverse backgrounds and were nominated by faculty, staff, and coaches.

Homecoming 2013, Photo Album 1: Golden Graduates

Amidst sunny skies and 75-degree weather, a multitude of alumni, family, and friends attended Homecoming 2013 on September 28. It was a great day for catching up with old friends—and catching some comedy from the University’s Improv on the Rocks troupe, as well as enjoying exhibitions by the Dance Team and the Martial Arts Team on Golden Bear Boulevard. In this album: every member of the Order of the Engineer national society receives a ring and pledges to uphold devotion to the standards and the dignity of the engineering profession.
