Jean Sibelius Sesquicentennial: Film, Music and Conversation

Thursday, April 2, 2015 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
D'Amour Library, Room 319

"Jean Sibelius Sesquicentennial: Film, Music and Conversation" Presented by Jack Brin, former Professor of Mathematics at Western New England University. This film biography looks at this internationally famous composer's life and music from birth, through his musical evolution and death in 1957. The film also references the Kalevala, a collection of runes about Finnish Viking mythology. Near the end of the century the spirit of nationalism overtook Finland, as well as many other European countries. The Kalevala was the primary work of Finnish literature, and a major source of nationalism in music and art. This program should have great appeal to anyone interested in any of the arts, music, or literature. This program is sponsored by the Department of Arts and Humanities and D'Amour Library.
