Origami and Math are Friends!

Thursday, March 12, 2015 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM
D'Amour Library, Room 319

Presented by Thomas Hull, Associate Professor of Mathematics at Western New England University. Over the past 40 years the art of origami (paper folding with no cuts) has been going through a renaissance. At the same time, researchers have been understanding the math behind origami more and more. This is not a coincidence! Art influences math and math influences art. More recently, this origami renaissance has been inspiring new applications in physics, engineering, and technology. Come learn about this art form, the math behind it, and the ways origami is now helping us design heart stents and put solar panels into outer space. This program is sponsored by the Department of Mathematics and D'Amour Library.
