New Name, Same Spirit for Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship

Western New England University has announced that the Law and Business Center for Advancing Entrepreneurship is now the Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship. More than just a new name, the Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship represents an expanded mission for entrepreneurship education at Western New England University.

“The Center will foster campus-wide entrepreneurial thinking in our Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, Engineering, and Pharmacy, and our School of Law,” says Center Director and Professor of Law Eric Gouvin. “Through the expanded mission, we aim to encourage a culture of entrepreneurship on campus by developing academic programs and teaching methods; providing scholarships and grants; offering support for students, faculty and staff; and by fostering partnerships with local and global organizations.”

From its speaker series to workshops and academic programs, the Center will help students identify entrepreneurial opportunities and gain the academic foundation to plan, fund, and structure viable businesses.

Gouvin says that the Center will remain a valuable resource and partner to the small business community stating, “The Center will continue to assist small businesses and entrepreneurial start-ups in the Pioneer Valley with professional services and informational and educational resources.” Since the founding of the Small Business Clinic, the University has assisted more than 150 local businesses.

Springfield's Bing Theatre on Sumner Avenue will host the first public event under the Center’s new moniker on June 6 at 4:00 p.m. At the EXTREME Business Makeover: Restaurant Edition, Elke Bosshart, owner of Elke’s Bake Shop will present her business plan to a panel of experts and receive feedback in front of a live audience. Panelists will include Peter Rosskothen, Owner and CEO, Log Cabin and Delaney House; Byron White, Executive Chef; Jill Monson, Owner of Inspired Marketing; Arnold Lizana, Esq. Case Manager, University of Connecticut Office of Diversity and Equity; and Kara Rescia, Business and Bankruptcy Attorney, Partner, Eaton & Rescia LLP; Co-owner, Touch of Garlic Inc. Refreshments will be provided by restaurants at The X in a “Taste of The X” event, including Typical Sicilian, A Touch of Garlic, Bueno Y Sano, Sal's Café, 3 Café, Gus and Paul's Bakery, and Elke's Bake Shop.
