High-technology industries are an important sector of the economy, particularly in the Northeast. The Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) program provides an engineering science-intensive approach to increase students’ understanding and problem-solving abilities. Offering concentrations in electrical and computer engineering, the MSEE is directed toward both full-time and part-time students with a special emphasis on providing training, experience in performing independent research on topics with theoretical as well as applied interest, and managing projects.
Educational Objectives of the Program
The program strives to equip our graduates with the following competencies:
- Advanced mathematical, electrical and computer engineering analytical skills to study and solve real world engineering problems.
- The ability to research and design complex systems requiring integration of several topical specialty areas.
- The ability to work successfully in a team.
- The ability to assume leadership roles in their chosen field.
The outcomes necessary to achieve our program objectives are that our students will have:
- an ability to apply advanced knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering
- an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
- an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability
- an ability to function on multidisciplinary teams
- an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
- an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility
- an ability to communicate effectively
- the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context

- a knowledge of contemporary issues
- an ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice
- an ability to model, analyze, simulate, and design circuits and systems
- an ability to use computer and/or laboratory tools in the design of circuits and systems
- an ability to build, test, and debug prototype circuits and systems and analyze results
- an ability to use the principles of design to solve open-ended engineering problems
