Western New England University School of Law Homecoming 2017

Western New England University School of Law Homecoming 2017

The Western New England University School of Law held its homecoming programs for alumni on September 22 and 23. The events started on Friday, 9/22, with the Alumni Recognition Reception at the The Museum of Springfield History from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Dean Eric Gouvin imparted special recognition of the reunion classes of 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2007, and 2012, and then presented three awards, including the Distinguished Alumnus Award, the Dean's Award, and the Ascending Alumni Awards.

On Saturday, 9/23, the events at the Blake Law Center included the Alumni Association annual meeting at 9:00 – 10:00 AM, conducted by Alumni Association President Elect, Talia K. Gee ’10.  The meeting was followed by the 22nd Annual Supreme Court Review at 10:00 AM – 12:00 Noon, presented by Professor Art Wolf and other law faculty, including Professor Emeritus Leora Harpaz, Professor Erin Buzuvis, and Professor Bruce Miller, discussing the important decisions of the Supreme Court 2016-17 term. The review ended with a well-deserved lunch and the annual State of the Law School address by Dean Eric Gouvin.

But we can’t forget the fun part of the day by the football field where alumni, family, friends and students gathered to eat from area food trucks, watch a soccer game, or just let the kids enjoy the Kids Zone activities while tents from all the university schools “represented!” Our SBA President Jeffrey Hiser and SBA member Paul Stabile hosted the School of Law Tent talking with students and passersby and posing for a picture with our distinguished alumni Kurt Hamakawa ’84, currently Associate Professor of Sport Management, Director of Center for International Sport Business of the university. Also, Alumni James Gregory ’78, stopped by and chatted with our enthusiastic 1L’s Ryan Hartnett and Kathleen Arcuri, who spent time at the tent. Other alums, Tom Moran ’06 and Randy Milo ’06 also passed through and collected Law School swag!

The weekend concluded with the Alumni and Students of Color Dinner at the Springfield La Quinta Inn & Suites from 6:00-9:00 PM. See you all next year!
