ATHENAEUM ARTS: A Reading by Colombian poet Marta Quiñónes

We welcome Marta Lucía Quiñónes, born in Apartadó, Colombia, a municipality located in the Gulf of Urabá and home to the most important banana industry in the country. It is also a place where foreign interests and political powers have unleashed the bloodiest violence in the area.

The Luxton Lecture Series presents a talk by Dr. Tyler S. Schafer, Assistant Professor of Sociology at California State University, Stanislaus. Drawing from years of observation and in-depth interviewing at a community garden in downtown Las Vegas, Dr. Schafer will demonstrate how voluntary groups construct place narratives that shape the identity of the place.
