Western New England University held its annual Student Employment Fair on Thursday, September 1, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Rivers Memorial Hall, attracting hundreds of students looking for employment on campus.
“Within days of the start of the fall semester, the Department of Human Resources always holds a job fair to help fill hundreds of on-campus positions. Students can either apply online, they can come to the job fair, or both,” explained Myra Quick, assistant director of human resources and manager of employee development. “It’s a hugely popular event every year. Students who attend get the opportunity to meet department supervisors who are hiring, fill out applications, and possibly get a brief interview on the spot.”
Freshman Kayleigh Gallagher said she would like an on-campus job relating to her field of study. “I’m hoping to find a tutoring job, since I’m an elementary education major.” Some of the available positions include tour guides, office work, lifeguards, tutoring, computer repair, librarians, athletic score keepers, and many more.
The Department of Athletics table was among the busiest at the fair. Many students expressed interest in work that related to their love of sports. Up to 1,100 students are employed every year by the University in jobs that give them real work experience without leaving the University campus.
