With a personal send-off from University President Anthony S. Caprio, 15 students from the Colleges of Arts and Sciences and Business bid farewell to the chilly Western New England campus and said “Hello” to a life-changing academic experience in the first-ever combined London Study Abroad semester program. In the latest iteration of the seven-year-old London semester opportunity, freshman Arts and Sciences and sophomore Business students are traveling to a new international partner institution: Regent’s University London. Professor of History Ted South, a veteran London trip leader of 17 years, is accompanying the students to Regent’s and will teach two cultures courses. Dr. South is codirector of the program along with Associate Professor of Sport Management Curt Hamakawa.

Regent’s University in downtown London offers students a more centralized location over Richmond, the American International University, where previous trips had been based. The new destination provides opportunities for cross-disciplinary interaction and proximity to London’s major historical and cultural sites. Mr. Will Mant, the study abroad advisor for Regent’s, described the institution as the best of city life while resting within the beautiful Regent’s Park, one of England’s royal parks.
