Burke Honored with Teaching Excellence Award

Western New England University has named Dr. John J. Burke the recipient of the 2018 Teaching Excellence Award. Winners of the prestigious award are nominated by students, faculty, and administrators for outstanding contributions as educators and advisors.

An associate professor of electrical engineering, Burke joined the Western New England University College of Engineering faculty in 2000. His teaching interests include electromagnetics, high frequency circuit design, antenna design, and analog electronics. A registered professional engineer, Burke spent two decades in industry before coming to Western New England, including work with Hughes Aircraft, Compact Software, MacNeal-Schwendler Corporation, Mission Research Corporation, and Millitech Corporation.

Burke holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University, a master’s in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at Los Angeles, and a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts.
