Western New England’s Department of Communication hosted its Ninth Annual Student Media Festival on May 5, giving students the opportunity to express their creativity and production skills. Pictured are (L-R) Professional Educator of Communication Brenda Garton, President Anthony S. Caprio, and alumni attendees who earned degrees in communication: Pam McCray ’10, a sports reporter for The Republican newspaper; Ashley Lynch ’10, a producer at Young Broadcasters of America in Natick, MA, Kenneth Mahoney ’10, a news photographer for WGGB abc40 in Springfield, Alicia Mascia, a food service representative at PepsiCo; Bobby Souza ’10, a news photographer for WGGB abc40; and Matt Caron ’10, a new media producer and assistant newscast director for WWLP TV-22 in Springfield. The festival, which took place in Sleith 100, consisted of video productions in three categories: television reports, music videos, and television commercials or public service announcements. A panel of judges selected the top three entries in each category, with audience members deciding the winner of the people's choice award in each category. Winning entries in the short film and non-profit video production categories were judged before the festival and the winners were announced at the event.
