VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) is a program operated by Springfield Partners for Community Action and sponsored by the IRS. On December 1, Western New England University had 34 students attend a training session on campus to become a VITA volunteer. As a result, they have become trained and certified by the IRS to prepare and file state and federal tax returns for low and moderate income people. Starting in January, and running until April, student volunteers will provide approximately 36 hours of tax return preparation services. In addition to those who came out for the training, there are more students who are planning to participate in the VITA program and will receive training at a different location.
