Western New England University is ranked in the top tier of its category in U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges 2014” guidebook, climbing ten spots among Regional Universities – North, a category encompassing close to 200 institutions offering a full range of undergraduate majors and master’s programs.
This year, U.S. News also named Western New England University to its “Best in Undergraduate Engineering” list, a category encompassing colleges and university engineering programs nationwide which focus primarily on undergraduate education.
“It’s gratifying to have others in our region and across the country recognize Western New England University’s growth and excellence in providing integrated liberal and professional learning,” says Dr. Anthony S. Caprio, University president. “The College of Engineering, with a growing student body and soon an expanded physical presence, is just one example of the positive momentum evident across campus.”
In the past five years, enrollment in Western New England University’s College of Engineering has grown by more than 50 percent. The institution is currently in the midst of a $12.8 million renovation and expansion of Sleith Hall to accommodate the growing engineering programs. The project includes a two-story, 8,600-square-foot addition that will house new civil and environmental engineering laboratories, a hospital suite for the study of biomedical engineering, as well as additional classroom and lab space.
U.S. News considers several different measures related to academic excellence in compiling the annual rankings, including the opinions of the academic community, student retention rates, graduation rates, faculty resources, class sizes, student achievement, and alumni giving.
This is the tenth consecutive year that Western New England has been listed in the top tier of the U.S. News rankings.
