Dr. John Baick Named Professor of the Year

Dr. John S. Baick of Longmeadow has been named the winner of this year's Excellence in Teaching Award at Western New England College. The announcement was made at the College's Baccalaureate ceremony on May 19. Dr. Baick is currently an associate professor of History in the College's School of Arts and Sciences.

John Baick Teaching Excellence

Baick joined the Department of History and Political Science in 1998, and has been active in the College's Honors Program. He was recently inducted into the Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society for students, faculty, staff, and alumni. An expert on modern U.S. history, East Asian history, and urban history, he is a frequent commentator on national and international matters.  He holds a bachelor of arts from Columbia University and a Ph.D. from New York University.

Winners of the prestigious Professor of the Year honor are nominated by students, faculty, and administrators for outstanding contributions as educators and advisors. A committee, comprised of current students, alumni, and faculty, oversee the nominations review. The following student comments about Baick were taken from the review process: "Pushes you to do your best and to give more than you thought you were able to give."  "Puts students immediately at ease."  "Brilliant in the classroom."  "Has a closer rapport with students than any other faculty member I know."
