Men's Lacrosse Alumni Show Their Support
Posted April 18, 2007
A brisk wind and a cool spring morning greeted dozens of alumni of the men’s lacrosse team as they gathered at Golden Bear Stadium for the annual reunion on Saturday, April 14. The alumni, organized by former Coach Joel Castleman L’87, made a generous donation to the lacrosse program. The gift also benefits Transformations: The Campaign for Western New England College.
Some of the connections you make on an athletic team are the greatest connections you make in life,” explains Castleman, who guided the Golden Bears from 1986 to 1989. “It’s just great to see all these guys get together. The current players get to see the alumni come back to campus and hopefully it inspires them to do the same thing when they get older.”
The former players enjoyed an alumni game, a cookout, and then cheered on the current squad to a 19-7 victory over conference rival Massachusetts Maritime Academy. The team is ranked third in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III Coaches Poll—the highest ranking ever by a Western New England College team in any sport.
