Pennant Fever: Alumni Flock to Fenway to Root-Root-Root for the Red Sox

Posted July 8, 2007

soxfans630.gif The Green Monster and Pesky’s Pole. The crack of the bat and the roar of the crowd. What summer would be complete without the sights and sounds of Fenway Park? On June 30 more than 100 Western New England College alumni, their families, and friends went on an Alumni Association sponsored trip to Fenway Park to cheer on the Red Sox, who hosted Texas.

The Olde Towne Team lost, 5-4, but remained comfortably atop the American League East standings with a double-digit lead over the rest of the division. Prior to the game many of the fans enjoyed a reception at Jillian’s on Lansdowne Street, and then watched Matthew Bousquet ’05 represent the College on the field as a “Leader of the Pack” during the pre-game ceremonies. This was the second alumni pilgrimage to Fenway Park this year. On May 20, over 110 alumni and their guests watched the Red Sox defeat the Atlanta Braves, 6-3. The next Red Sox trip is on August 31 against Baltimore, however, the deadline to enter the online lottery purchase tickets for this August 31 game has passed.

The next scheduled alumni trips are a whale watch and/or Boston Harbor sunset dinner cruise on August 19 and a November 16 performance of the musical Wicked at Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts in Hartford.
