Michael C. Thomas is Vice Chair and Clinical Associate Professor in the department of pharmacy practice. He received his B.S. degree in Education from the College of Education and his Pharm.D. from the College of Pharmacy, University of Arizona. He completed a post-doctoral pharmacy practice residency at the Arizona Health Sciences Center in Tucson, Arizona and has been board certified in pharmacotherapy since 2003. After residency training he joined the pharmacy staff at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, Michigan and worked in a variety of clinical settings including cardiology, cardio-thoracic surgery, internal medicine, intensive care, and emergency medicine. He successfully co-led a multi-disciplinary group to implement bar code medication administration technology across a five-hospital system supported by a large grant awarded by Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). Before coming to Western New England University, he was Associate Professor at South University School of Pharmacy in Savannah, Georgia where he helped establish and maintain clinical pharmacy services in the emergency department at two hospitals in the same health-system. He has been a preceptor for doctor of pharmacy students and post-graduate year-one pharmacy residents. He is board certified in pharmacotherapy and a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy.
