Break Housing

The Office of Residence Life offers resident students the opportunity to live on campus during University breaks. Students must meet eligibility requirements to qualify for housing during these breaks. Eligibility requirements are listed on the application for housing for each break.

Summer housing is located in Evergreen Village or Southwood Hall, depending on the year. Housing for all other breaks (Thanksgiving,Winter, Spring) is located in different buildings depending on the circumstances of each break.  Below you will find information on each break as that break approaches regarding which buildings will be available.

LATE DEPARTURES: Students who only need late departure (meaning they need to remain on campus until 10:00 a.m. the morning after the halls close for a given break) must sign up for late departure by sending an email to Sean.Burke@wne.edu by 4:00 p.m. on the day before housing closes. They do not need to fill out Break Housing Requests.

Thanksgiving Break Housing

LOCATION

Housing for Thanksgiving break will be available in all residence areas from Wednesday, November 23, 2016 through Sunday, November 27, 2016. Housing closes for Thanksgiving Break on Tuesday, November 22 at 9:00 p.m. and reopens on Sunday, November 27 at 1:00 p.m. 

REGISTRATION FOR BREAK HOUSING

Students who need to remain on campus for some or all of the Thanksgiving Break must register by emailing us at Sean.Burke@wne.edu by Monday November 21st at 4:00 pm.  You are not registered for Break Housing until you receive a reply confirming your registration. 

ELIGIBILITY: WHO MAY STAY

To be authorized to stay on campus during the Thanksgiving break, you must be a continuing Western New England University student AND meet at least one of the following criteria:

1)  Be an international student

2)  Have a home address a minimum of 6 hours driving distance from the campus.

3)  Be employed full-time off-campus. You will need VERIFICATION FROM YOUR EMPLOYER to be eligible for housing.

If you do not fit these criteria, you are NOT eligible for Thanksgiving break housing.

UNIVERSITY POLICY

Residence Life duty patterns change during holiday breaks in that RAs will not be on duty in the Residence Halls during the break.  However, the Public Safety department continues to operate around-the-clock and should be contacted for assistance.

All University policies in effect during the academic year REMAIN in effect during the Thanksgiving break.  It is the student’s responsibility to be familiar with these policies and abide by them.  By signing and returning the Thanksgiving break housing request, the student is accepting responsibility to adhere to all University policies.  In addition, no guests are allowed during the break housing period.  This includes other residents and roommates who are not registered for break housing.

Students in need of late departure for the Thanksgiving Break must send an email to Sean.Burke@wne.edu by November 21 at 4:00 p.m. stating your reason for late departure. Late departure is not authorized until you receive a response confirming that you have been approved. Late departures have until Wednesday November 23 at 10:00 a.m. to leave campus for the break.

Winter Break Housing

LOCATION

Housing for the 2016-2017 Winter break will be available in Gateway, Evergreen, Southwood, Commonwealth and Windham from Saturday, December 17, 2016 through Saturday, January 14, 2017. If you currently do not live in one of these residence areas, you will need to “bunk up” in a friend’s apartment. Housing closes for Winter Break on Friday, December 16 at 9:00 p.m. and reopens on Sunday, January 15 at 1:00 p.m. If you will need to bunk up to stay on campus for any part of this break, please make your plans in advance so you don't need to scramble at the last minute.

ELIGIBILITY: Who May Stay

To be authorized to live on campus during the Winter break, you must be a continuing University student AND meet at least one of the following criteria:

  1) Be an international student

  2) Be enrolled in winter classes at Western New England University

  3) Be a full-time campus employee during the winter break (minimum 33 hours per week)

  4) Be an athlete whose team is required to be here during the break

  5) Be employed full-time off-campus (minimum 33 hours per week). You will need VERIFICATION FROM YOUR EMPLOYER AND PERMISSION FROM THE OFFICE OF RESIDENCE LIFE to be eligible for housing.

If you do not fit these criteria, you are NOT eligible for Winter Break housing.

RATES

Students in need of Winter Break housing will pay a set rate of $95 per week.  A billing week is considered to be Sunday through Saturday.  If you reside on campus for any portion of the week, you will be billed for the full week.

APPLICATION DEADLINE

Completed Winter Break housing request forms must be returned to the Office of Residence Life no later than Thursday December 15, 2016 by 4:00 p.m.

Students in need of late departure for Winter Break must send an email to Sean.Burke@wne.edu by December 15th at 4:00 p.m. stating your reason for late departure. Late departure is not authorized until you receive a response confirming that you have been approved. Late departures have until Saturday December 17th at 10:00 a.m. to leave campus for the break.

Spring Break Housing

Housing will close for Spring Break on March 10, 2017 at 9:00PM. Housing re-opens at 1:00PM on Sunday March, 19 2017. 

If students need to remain on campus for Spring Break, they will be able to sign up for Spring Break housing in all areas of campus housing.  Students who wish to remain on campus during Spring Break must still submit Spring Break Housing Requests. See below for information and the Spring Break Housing Request form. The Spring Break housing request form is available below.

Request Form

Summer Housing

Housing will close for the Spring 2017 semester on May 12, 2017 at 9:00 p.m. Summer housing will be available in Evergreen Village. Evergreen apartments are equipped with a fully furnished kitchen, a private bath, furnished living room and furnished bedrooms. Parking is available for all residents.

To be authorized to live in Evergreen during the summer, you must be a continuing Western New England University student (registered for classes for Fall 2017) AND meet at least one of the following criteria:

  1) Be enrolled in summer classes at Western New England University

  2) Be an international student

  3) Be a full-time campus employee during the summer

  4) Have a full-time internship over the summer

(Minimum 33 hours per week for campus employment and internship). 

You will need to provide VERIFICATION FROM YOUR ON-CAMPUS EMPLOYER, or the Career Development Center (for Internship Experiences).

If you do not fit these criteria, you are NOT eligible for summer housing.

A $95.00 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of application, in order to reserve a space. Summer housing applications will not be accepted without this deposit. The housing rate for all summer residents is $95.00 per week, which is billed to your student account. 

UNIVERSITY POLICY

All University policies in effect during the academic year REMAIN in effect during the summer. It is the summer resident's responsibility to be familiar with these policies. By signing and returning the summer housing application, the summer resident is accepting responsibility for adhering to all University policies.

APPLICATION DEADLINE

Completed Housing Application Forms, along with your RECEIPT for the $95.00 non-refundable deposit, must be returned to the Office of Residence Life no later than Monday, May 1, 2017 by 4:00 p.m. (Please pay deposit in advance to Student Administrative Services.)

LATE DEPARTURES

Students with a legitimate need for late departure must request late departure by sending an email to Sean Burke at Sean.Burke@wne.edu by May 11 at 4:00 p.m.
