Co-Curricular Awards

On Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 5:30 p.m., the University will again host and honor students at the Forty-Third Annual Co-Curricular Awards Dinner and Ceremony. This is a long-standing tradition at which the opportunity is taken to publicly recognize those students who have distinguished themselves within the area of co-curricular involvement.

Description of Each Award

ANDREW J. MULCAHY STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD
- Cumulative average of 3.00 or better.
- Must currently hold, or have held within the last year, a position of elected or appointed leadership.
- Demonstration of a notable contribution to organization which served.
- Exemplification of outstanding characteristics and ideals of leadership.

CITATION FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE (External Community)
- Demonstration of significant involvement in and contributions to the external civic community.
- Service shall have been of a volunteer nature.
- May be for service in an elected or appointed capacity.
- May be awarded once to any recipient.

COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD (On-Campus Community)
- Shall have given unselfishly of time and energy in direct service to students.
- May have rendered service within the framework of an appointed or paid position within any organized service component of the university.
- Preference given to junior and senior students.

DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
- Has shown high level of creativity in design and delivery of program services.
- Does not necessarily need to have a visible leadership position in carrying out assigned or volunteer responsibility.
- Has demonstrated outstanding loyalty and commitment toward the enhancement of student life.
- Can only be awarded once to any recipient.

EXCELLENCE IN MEDIA AWARD
- Must have been a consistent participant in one or more forms of student media for at least one year.
- Shall have had a significant positive impact on the development and improvement of the media in which involved.
- Exemplification of professional standards of journalistic/broadcasting excellence.

FINE ARTS AWARD
- Demonstration of notable contributions to the arts on campus.
- May be a member of one of the arts-related organizations.
- Candidate will be a junior or senior.
- Consistently advocates arts awareness on campus.

GOLDEN BEAR AWARD (Separate Nomination Form)
- Exhibit a strong sense of caring and encourage students to excellence
- Be committed to student success.
- Demonstrate a student centered approach to his/her work.
- Articulate student needs with a strong and consistent voice.
- May be awarded once to any recipient, faculty or staff member.
- Has exceeded job expectations in service to students.

GRADUATE OF THE YEAR
- Shall be awarded only to a member of the current graduating class and is eligible for awarding of degree. Shall have completed four years of regular study at Western New England University.
- Has provided an exemplary model for continuing development of services or programs.
- Shows outstanding promise for the future.

PARENTS ASSOCIATION CITIZENSHIP AWARD
- Awarded by Parents Association.
- Member of current graduating class.
- Cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better.
- Demonstration of significant contributions to student life throughout the candidate’s tenure at the university.

RESIDENCE LIFE AWARD
- Junior standing or above in good academic standing of 2.7 or better.
- Completion of at least one year in residence, or at least one year of affiliation with student housing.
- Demonstration of contribution to the improvement or advancement of Residence Life.
- May be awarded to students or staff member.

STUDENT ASSOCIATION AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
- Junior standing or above in good academic standing of 2.7 or better.
- Demonstration of outstanding contributions to co-curricular life throughout the current academic year.
- Consistency is the key.
- Contributions shall have had campus-wide significance.

STUDENT ASSOCIATION RECOGNITION AWARD
- Demonstration of notable achievement in student life in a singular fashion.
- Normally awarded for service to a particular club or organization.
- Service shall have had direct impact on improving an existing program or initiating a new program or organization.

STUDENT LIFE AWARD
- May be awarded to student(s) of any class but with particular consideration to freshman or sophomore students.
- Shall be given in recognition of volunteer service to the university.
- Service rendered shall have had direct impact on improving the quality of student life and toward furthering the mission of the university.

STUDENT PROGRAMMING AWARD
- Participation in a leadership capacity planning a student program of campus wide significance.
- Demonstration of program innovation and creativity.
- Demonstration of an understanding of program strategy.

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR
- Does not normally hold an executive position within any club or organization.
- Has not been the recipient of or sought any other recognition for his/her efforts in a volunteer capacity.
- Consistently and unselfishly gives of time and energy in support of co-curricular programs or the advancement of student life, a “behind the scenes” person.

STUDENT ASSOCIATION FIRST YEAR SUCCESS AWARD
- junior standing or above in good academic standing of 2.7 or better
- completion of at least one year in service to the first year population, in a paid or volunteer position
- demonstration of contribution to the improvement or advancement of the First Year Program
- may be awarded to students or staff member

Golden Bear Award

The criteria for the Golden Bear Award is as follows:

- Articulate student needs with a strong and consistent voice.
- May be awarded once to any recipient, faculty or staff member.
- Has exceeded job expectations in service to students.
