Family and Friends Weekend

It's A Bird...It's A Plane...IT'S A GOLDEN BEAR! So gather up family and friends and put on your capes to visit your favorite Western New England University student at Family and Friends Weekend 2017!  The Campus Activities Board (CAB) has designed a weekend of fun-filled activities for the entire family to enjoy with their Golden Bear. Super Hero activities are designed so that families can select what activities they would like to participate in throughout the weekend while still having time to explore the Springfield area. All of the activities on campus are free of charge, except meals and admission to the Golden Bear Football game. There is no ‘Family Registration Fee’ either so plan to make it a multi-generational visit to campus!

Tickets are available exclusively online by visiting wneu.universitytickets.com, starting Monday, September 11.

Western New England University is committed to ensuring that all its programs & services are accessible to all. If you require a special accommodation, are a wheelchair user attending our campus for the first time, or have specific questions about the physical features of our campus and venues, please call 413.782.1203 at least two weeks prior to your visit.

Guidelines for Tailgating on Designated University Property

  • Tailgating activities in the parking lot located directly behind the Alumni Healthful Living Center (AHLC) but only with the parking spots located on the back and right side of the lot on the grass (i.e. the side closet to the stadium).  First come, first serve spaces and when the lot is full it will be closed.
  • Tailgating may begin no earlier than three hours prior to the start of the start of the game. Tailgating must be discontinued fifteen minutes prior to the start of the game and throughout the game. Tailgating may continue until two hours after the end of the game.
  • Glass containers are prohibited. The use of plastic containers is encouraged for the consumption of all beverages.
  • Propane and charcoal grills are allowed when used solely for food preparation purposes. Burned coals and/or residue from cooking are not permitted to make contact with the paved surface of the parking lot or grassy areas.
  • Open flame fires, including fire pits, are prohibited.
  • All groups and individuals participating in tailgating are responsible for the proper collection and disposal of their trash, as well as, other debris such as charcoal.
  • Please note that Western New England University complies with the Federal legislation that has been enacted to promote health and curbs substance abuse on college campuses. In order to do so, we ask all guests to comply with the institutions’ Alcohol Policy and Host Liability.  This policy is consistent with local, state, and federal laws and failure to comply by any individual may jeopardize federal funding to the institution.
  • Thus, we must insist that any alcohol consumed by Western New England University community members and off campus guests on University grounds be least 21 years of age and will be carded, if needed.
  • Campus Police may be asked to assist in enforcement.
  • Western New England University supports social interaction based on sound decision-making and, if that social interaction includes the use of alcohol, expects the use to be made in a responsible and moderate manner and in accordance with the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • It is our hope that we can provide a safe and enjoyable family atmosphere to celebrate the Golden Bears before a good athletic competition.
