Exemption to Ban on Pets in Residence Halls

The following conditions must be met for consideration of an exemption to the ban on pets in the residence areas at Western New England University (i.e., for permission to have a service, companion, emotional support or therapy animal):

  • Student must provide compelling evidence that in order to have equal access and to make effective use of the facilities, this accommodation is necessary.

  • Evidence within the student's diagnosis or history should demonstrate that there are no other accommodations that can be offered to mitigate the effects of the disability and to allow the student to effectively make use of the opportunity to live in on-campus housing.

  • The health and safety standards that apply to the residence areas are not in any jeopardy of being compromised or undermined.
