Western New England University supports the Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) Systems program and dedicates itself to the safety and empowerment of its students. The program was created to give women of all sizes and ages a set of realistic defensive tactics. By combining awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and avoidance strategies, this unique approach to women's safety goes a long way to bridging the gap between traditional crime prevention lectures and basic martial arts courses.
The principle objective of RAD is to develop and enhance the options women see available to them for self-defense. Students help, support, and motivate each other. Women are given the knowledge and confidence along with skills, to enhance their own natural resistance reactions. Classes led by certified instructors are offered through the University's Department of Public Safety.
