Being part of a military family from Palmer, MA has shaped Caitlyn Marchand’s values in many ways, most especially in her work ethic and desire to give back to others. She says she was raised to “approach every activity with purpose, energy, integrity, and passion in mind,” and Caitlyn has certainly led by example.
An English major and Political Science minor, Caitlyn has been a standout student, and has been named to Dean’s and President’s Lists each semester. She has used her natural talent for writing to coach other students as a Writing Center Tutor and First Year Seminar assistant. She was accepted into the Sigma Tau Delta and Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Societies.
Some of Caitlyn’s most valuable contributions to the campus community have involved mentoring potential Golden Bears and new students, which gave her a platform to grow as a young professional and positively influence the experience others had at Western New England. As a Peer Advisor, Caitlyn is one of the first people our incoming students meet on campus. She is there to share advice for approaching their college career and helps them locate critical resources. Caitlyn was the Recruitment Chair for Peer Advising and this past summer, became part of the Steering Committee. She shares her enthusiasm for Western New England as an Open House Associate, where she shares her experiences and answers the questions of prospective students and their parents.
Caitlyn is committed to her class and residence halls and currently serves as Vice President for her Class Council and a member of Residence Hall Association. These roles require her to plan and publicize programs, fundraisers, and events, and run professional meetings.
In the past year she has made a point to focus on her career by interning for Massachusetts Senator Anne Gobi, where she wrote press releases, honed her research skills, and attended public events. She also worked as a Content and Social Media Marketing Intern at Barton Associates Inc., a healthcare staffing company.
Upon graduation, Caitlyn hopes to work full-time in the copywriting, editing, or publishing fields. She compares her career goals to that of Esther Greenwood, from Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar, in that “she wants to be everything.”
