Emily McGuinness


English Literature

Emily McGuinness is an English Literature major from Holden, MA. She is the first of her family to attend a four-year university and has always been a very motivated, involved student. After her first year at WNE, she was selected to be an Orientation Group Leader, where she supported incoming students and their families as they began the transition to college. Since then, she's has held several leadership positions across campus; as an Associate in the Office of First Year Students, a tutor at the Writing Center, in the Department of Athletics, and the Office of Student Activities, as well as being a Junior Representative. Most recently she has taken on an internship with Office of Alumni Relations as an advancement writer.

Emily’s outstanding academic performance and 3.95 GPA has earned her membership in the Mortar Board Senior Honor Society and Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society as well as being a recipient of the Alfred and Mariam LaRiviere Merit Scholarship.

She had the opportunity to experience the nonprofit world for herself this past spring semester as an intern for Leadership Pioneer Valley in Springfield, as well as a volunteer for Girls, Inc. in Holyoke. At Leadership Pioneer Valley, Emily was the social media and marketing intern, which entailed creating and maintaining the company’s brand new Instagram page and writing content for their website, blog, and social media page. Emily researched and connect with local non-profit organization that may be interested in collaborating Leadership Pioneer Valley. Her internship was rounded out with planning, setting up, and executing field day experiences that the current members were participating in.

Emily volunteered Girls, Inc. for their annual Girls Breakfast which celebrates everyone within the organization. She did everything from setting up tables, designing posters and wrapping gifts to providing support to the managers.

After graduation in May Emily secure a position in marketing for a non-profit organization or at a university.
