Gina Lanzano is a Creative Writing Major with a Film Studies minor from Wethersfield, CT. Since her freshman year, Gina has dedicated herself to her studies, earning her a 4.0 GPA every semester, placement within the College Arts & Sciences Honors Program, and induction into Alpha Lambda Delta, Sigma Tau Delta, and Mortar Board honor societies.
Gina’s passion for literature, which developed at a young age, inspired her to pursue creative writing in college. After visiting Western New England University for the first time, she knew the campus and its program would be a perfect fit, and instantly worked to become involved and engaged within the campus community. Looking to improve her writing, she became a staff member of The Westerner the first semester of her freshman year and later became Secretary. She is currently the Editor-in-Chief, a position she has held the past two academic years.
Aside from her experience at the newspaper, Gina has also worked in the Writing Center the past three years as a Peer Tutor, and is a First Year Seminar assistant in freshman English classrooms. She also gained practical experience outside of the classroom, working as a Poetry Editor for the Common Ground Review and as an Editorial Intern for the Tobias Literary Agency in New York. Gina was also awarded the Student Association Excellence in Media Award, which is given to students who had a significant impact on the development and improvement of their chosen media organization.
Additionally, Gina studied abroad in London the summer of her sophomore year, and after falling in love with the city’s culture, food, and art, she developed passion for travel. While she is contemplating pursuing a number of different opportunities after graduation, Gina would like to take a year off to teach English abroad, and then return to the states to obtain her Master’s degree.
She wrote on her Skookum application that, “Traveling and becoming educated on other worldviews and lifestyles is inherently fulfilling and exciting, and one of my greatest goals is to explore all the destinations and cultures that I can in my lifetime.” Regardless of where the path after graduation takes her, she is determined to follow her passions and seek happiness wherever she may be.
