Ryan Brault

Royal Skookum

Business Analytics and Information Management and Finance

Ryan, who has a 3.92 GPA, has been heavily involved with campus activities since his freshman year. Ryan has been named to the Alpha Lambda Delta and Beta Gamma Sigma honor societies. He has been a member of Film Society, a Peer Advisor for three years, the Commuter Representative for Student Senate, a First-Year Seminar Assistant, an Open House Associate, an Orientation Group Leader, past President of the 2018 Class Council, and both Section and Assistant Editor of the Cupola Yearbook. This year, Ryan is the Editor-in-Chief of his own senior class’s yearbook.

As a heavily involved commuter on campus, Ryan saw and experienced the difficulties and needs of commuter students. As a result, he helped found the Golden Bear Commuter Council and has worked with his executive board to make commuters feel more connected to their resident classmates and to feel more at home on campus.

Ryan says he strengthened his confidence and ability to be a leader in a team setting when he spent a summer as an Orientation Group Leader, assisting and befriending the incoming freshman and calmly taking control of nerve-wracking situations. He credits his experience being an OGL with uncovering a level of independence he didn’t know he had, and that he has been able to apply the skills he took out of being and OGL to his daily life.

It was Class Council, however, where Ryan discovered his potential for leadership. Some of his greatest successes have been leading his Council to victory at the 2016 Midnight Madness event and organizing his Council’s very successful Hawaiian beach party. He also cites his success in his freshman council as the reason he felt confident enough to apply to the peer advising program, which he in turn says changed his life.

This past summer Ryan had an internship with Waste Management Inc., where he input data into an information system and tracked this data. He was also tasked with validating the data with third-party trash haulers, which gave his internship a customer service component.

When not immersed in studies Ryan is likely planning his next trip to Walt Disney World, or figuring out how to get on the next season of his favorite TV show, Survivor.

After graduation, he intends to pursue a Master’s degree and a position at a local insurance company. He hopes to stay in the Springfield area close to his family, especially Tyler his brother and best friend.
