Important Notice Regarding Vacation Carryover
Updated May 13, 2020
As we continue to plan the University’s responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the financial challenges it has caused, we are immediately making a temporary change to the University’s Vacation Policy as described in the Exempt and Non-Exempt Employee Handbooks. The present policy allows for a significant amount of carry-over vacation time for both exempt and non-exempt employees. Although we are not making permanent changes to the carry over limits in either policy, employees with vacation balances of greater than 80 hours as of May 4th will be required to use at least 5 days of vacation prior to July 1, 2020. All vacation balances greater than 80 hours will be reduced by 5 days on July 1, 2020, if 5 vacation days have not been used between May 4, 2020 and June 30, 2020. Carry-over of remaining vacation hours will continue as indicated in the University’s current policies. The University will not approve requests for extensions of carry-over time, and employees with balances that exceed established limits as of July 1, 2020 or December 31, 2020 will lose this vacation time consistent with current policy. This temporary change was approved by the President and the President’s Staff on Tuesday, May 5th, 2020.
