Diversity Programs and Services
Guided by social justice principles, the office of Diversity Programs and Services upholds and works towards pluralism through a commitment to empower, advocate, and educate members of our community.
The Office of Diversity Programs and Services values and celebrates diversity, as a means of enriching the educational experiences of all students. Studying and learning in a diverse environment helps to prepare students to live and work in a global society. As a part of their educational experience, students benefit when they interact with multiple diverse groups, including those who have been historically underrepresented in post-secondary institutions.
We work hard to build and encourage an inclusive environment that seeks to celebrate and utilize people's differences and similarities as a means of self awareness and development. It is our goal to appreciate all people, not to tolerate, but to appreciate.
Several opportunities for interaction are provided, through multicultural programs, and various outreach and support services that help students transition into college life, while enhancing their academic success. Services offered include multi-ethnic and multicultural programs and workshops, including: Black History Month, Women's History Month, Hispanic Awareness Month, and in-class presentations on diversity and sensitivity issues. Serving all students regardless of ethnicity, student input, participation, and attendance is encouraged for all activities coordinated by the office.
The office also advises students of color and international students. For the international students, the office is responsible for processing immigration paperwork, advising on immigration regulations, and acting as a liaison between international students and The Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Service.
