The Western New England University Title IX committee held a free event called, “Know your IXs” on Friday, September 9, in the St. Germain Campus Center Mall. Title IX is a comprehensive federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity.
“It’s imperative that the University continually educate our students concerning appropriate behavior,” explained Assistant Dean of Experiential Learning and Career Development Dr. Adina Elfant. “Awareness and understanding of Title IX, and its purpose, will help us create a safe and supportive campus community.”
The University promotes dignity and respect of all members of the campus community, and holds regular training workshops to educate students, faculty, and staff about issues such as recognizing, intervening, and reporting harmful behavior.
The “Know Your IXs” event helped raise awareness and knowledge of Title IX, empowering students specifically against acts of sexual discrimination, with the goal of one day preventing discrimination all together. The Campus Center mall area was set up with spinning wheel games, trivia giveaways, and information tables to promote awareness.
