The team of Emily Fernschild and Brennen Zolnoski took first place honors in the Senior Design Competition at the 45th annual Northeast Bioengineering Conference (March 20-22) held at Rutgers University. Their project titled "Bioreactor for Mechanical Stimulation of 3D Scaffolds for Tendon Tissue Engineering" earned the team $150 and a 3D printer.

"The students performed exceptionally at the conference. They worked very hard and it was great to see their design getting acknowledgement. We are very proud of them," said Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering Devina Jaiswal, who served as the team's advisor and accompanied the students to the conference. "The Western New England Team was selected as finalists from over 50 entrees to give a podium presentation of their Senior Design Project. During the conference, the students also attended research talks, which gave them exposure to latest work being done in the field of biomedical engineering at various other universities."
