A message from School of Law Dean Sudha Setty,

Dean Gaudio

Arthur R. Gaudio, 79, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at Baystate Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Rochester, NY to the late Ralph and Anne (Tannascoli) Gaudio, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Rochester and was a graduate of Syracuse University School of Law. Arthur had a long and distinguished career in legal education and was widely regarded as an expert in real estate law.

I am saddened to share the news that Dean Emeritus of the School of Law Art Gaudio has passed away. Dean Gaudio impacted thousands of law students during his tenure as dean from 2001 to 2013, both as an institutional leader and as a devoted professor of Property and other subjects that he loved to teach. He will be remembered by our School of Law faculty and staff, alumni, and friends across the University and community as a leader, colleague, and friend who brought warmth and humanism to his work.

In addition to his work at WNE, Dean Gaudio was a member of the American Bar Association Accreditation Committee and assisted with and chaired many law school accreditation site visit teams. He was a member of the ABA Data Policy and Collection Committee, serving as Chairman from 2010-2012. Prior to coming to Western New England University, Dean Gaudio was the Deputy Consultant on Legal Education at the ABA for two years. He also served as the Dean of the University of Wyoming College of Law. Dean Gaudio authored Real Estate Brokerage Law and was the General Editor and Coauthor of the treatise The American Law of Real Property. He wrote chapters on real estate law for Powell on Real Property, Patton and Palomar on Land Titles, as well as numerous law review articles on property law topics. He served as the Reporter for the Iowa State Bar Association in developing a statewide electronic land records system and legislation. He also served as Reporter for the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws to develop and draft the Uniform Real Property Electronic Recording Act and the Revised Uniform Law on Notarial Acts.

Dean Gaudio retired from the faculty in 2019. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Dean Gaudio’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.
