Joshua J. Spooner received his Pharm.D. degree from the University of Rhode Island. He continued his pharmacy training at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, where he completed a one-year residency in Managed Care Pharmacy Practice in collaboration with SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals. He has also received a M.S. in Health Policy from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
Dr. Spooner is the instructor of record in PHAR 510- Introduction to Pharmacy and an instructor in PHAR 517- Health Care Policy and Delivery. Within The College of Pharmacy, Dr. Spooner is responsible for student recruitment and admissions, learner advisement, professional development, and learner organization oversight. He is a member of The College of Pharmacy’s Academic Affairs and Student Affairs Committees, and sits on the University’s Diversity Design Committee.
Before coming to Western New England University, he had been employed previously as the Director of Clinical and Outcomes Services at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, a Manager of Health Outcomes Research at HealthCore (Wilmington, DE), and a Pharmaceutical Research Assistant at Brown University. Dr. Spooner possesses a vast array of experience in formulary management, pharmacy and therapeutics committee issues, medical communications, and long-term care pharmacy issues. He played a key role in the development and implementation of a national pharmacy benefit manager’s outcomes-based formulary. Dr. Spooner has published manuscripts and textbook chapters in pharmacoeconomics, medical communications, corporate compliance, and general therapeutics. He is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for the Journal of Managed Care Pharmacy.
