INTERESTS

Research and Teaching

Dr. Gladys Ekong’s research work focuses on sociocultural and behavioral aspects of chronic disease management and prevention. She has published in various peer-reviewed journals on medication use, behavioral interventions, Motivational Interviewing, health disparities and cultural competence. Her teaching interests include pharmacy practice management, cultural competence, and healthcare communications.

Diabetes Prevention

As a certified lifestyle coach, I am passionate about chronic disease prevention and management. I offer the PreventT2 Lifestyle change program for adults with prediabetes. PreventT2 is part of the National Diabetes Prevention Program, led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The 1-year program is offered at the Western New England College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and Big Y Foods, Inc. Consultation and Wellness Center in Springfield, MA.
