Interview with Sienna:
Why did you choose Western New England University?
When I first visited Western New England, I felt welcomed. I was looking for a university that would give me an individualized education- where I was more than a number. The small size of the pharmacy program and the University as a whole has led me to develop deep connections with individuals all across campus. I completed my undergraduate pre-pharmacy coursework here as well and have been able to experience everything the University has to offer. It’s become my home away from home, and I love the family I’ve made at WNE.
Please share your thoughts about the pharmacy program at Western New England University.
My experience at WNE has shaped me as both a professional and a person. The small class sizes have allowed me to work one-on-one with my professors and my peers and has created a really supportive environment. The leadership opportunities within organizations offer additional experiences to grow outside the classroom.
What are your current career aspirations?
Although I have been keeping my mind open to new opportunities, I have found an interest in acute care. I hope to complete a postgraduate residency to find my passion within that realm. Wherever I practice, my ultimate goal is to use the clinical knowledge I have obtained here at WNE to improve outcomes for my patients and become an active member of the healthcare team.
What advice would you provide to a student considering pharmacy for a career?
Get involved! Experience in a pharmacy is invaluable; don’t hesitate to join organizations in your undergraduate education. The places your PharmD can take you expand far beyond community pharmacy. If you enter school with an open mind, you’ll find what you’re passionate about. Take it one day at a time, and you’ll have a great support system there to help you every step of the way!
Sienna’s Faculty Advisor Dr. Marissa Ostroff, Clinical Associate Professor of Ambulatory Care, shared the following thoughts:
Sienna is a natural leader and has an innate ability to influence those around her in a positive way. She has achieved academic excellence in the classroom and is committed to community service outreach and giving back to others. She is kind, patient, and passionate about what she does, and I know that she will make a large impact on patient care throughout her career as a pharmacist. I cannot think of someone more deserving of this prestigious recognition. Way to go, Sienna!
