Student Privacy & Confidentiality
It is important to respect the privacy of students by maintaining strict confidentiality of your knowledge that a student has a disability. Confidentiality of a student’s disability or need for accommodations should always be maintained.
Always interact with a student in a way that does not bring to the attention of others that the person has a disability. Confidentiality in the accommodation process is a must.
Because disclosure of a disability is a personal choice, instructors do not have the right to directly ask if a student has a disability or what the nature of it may be. It is okay, however, to share information in general with regard to student resources available on campus.
