Human Resource Management
Every organization of every size—from corporations to nonprofits—needs innovative professionals to help it to attract, support, and manage its most valuable resource—the people who will make it be successful. In the Human Resource Management program, you will gain the knowledge and skills to become a Human Resource Management (HRM) professional with expertise in employment law, workplace diversity, and HR analytics. Through classroom learning and hands-on experiences in the field, WNE graduates become skilled as strategic business partners capable of solving organizational problems from their first job throughout their careers.

What Will You Study?
Human Resource Management is a vast field with many pathways for you to pursue. To help you find what’s right for you, each year your professors will guide you through activities from career exploration to implementation. Here’s how it works: Freshman year is all about career exploration as you take the Introduction to Business Seminar. As a sophomore, it’s on to Career Investigation, where you will study Management and Organizational Behavior or the honors course Managing People and Processes and gain an in-depth look at HRM career opportunities. Junior year, you will dig deeper into HRM-specific coursework like Performance Management and HR Analytics and field test your career path through an internship. Senior year you implement what you learn through participation in the “RealTest” Assessment Exercise as part of your senior capstone course and work with the Delbridge Center on job search strategies.
Human Resource Management majors are prepared for a career path in human resources across industries. Graduates are uniquely equipped to understand the strategic direction of organizations and use analytics to identify innovative people-oriented solutions to problems and opportunities. Although career paths available to students include HRM generalist and HRM specialist (focused on a specific HRM area), HRM knowledge and skills are desired assets for many managerial positions.
Clubs & Organizations
Human Resource Management majors students may have interests in: Alpha Lambda Delta (First-year honor society), Alpha Kappa Psi (Professional business fraternity), Beta Gamma Sigma (Honor Society), and Management Association. Many of our students also participate in varsity and intramural sports, special interest groups, and student government.
A diverse group of professionals, our Human Resource Management faculty is focused on teaching and mentoring you. All members hold advanced degrees in accredited business majors from some of the finest colleges and universities. They are involved in research, provide consulting services to companies, publish in national journals, and present their work at regional and national meetings about leadership. Our faculty developed the area's Leadership Institute more than 30 years ago, which educates mid-level managers, and offers a Management Institute for area companies.
