Dance the Night Away in 1990

[View our photo archives.] The 1990 “Have-a-Heart” dance marathon lasted for an astounding 22 hours and raised $10,000 for the elderly. About half of the 98 participants finished this grueling event. “I ate my Twix, drank my water, and lived through it,” exclaimed Ronald Przybycien ’92/G’97. The Peer Advisors sponsored the competition, and the proceeds were donated to the Springfield Council on Aging to purchase a van for patients at Springfield Municipal Hospital. Students competed for a grand prize of $1,000 in cash, which was kept in a locked chest. For every $100 a student raised, he or she was assigned a combination that might open the trunk, and Kari O’Neil ’90 finally sprung the lock.
