The Department of Public Safety provides a full range of safety and crime prevention services including:
- 24-hour police patrols on foot, mountain bikes and in cruisers;
- 315 surveillance cameras throughout campus;
- Fire and environmental safety efforts;
- 39 Emergency phones throughout campus;
- Medical first responders and two emergency technicians
The Department also facilitates educations programs on a number of topics, including alcohol and drug use, personal safety, rape aggression and defense, and fire safety.
University Police is staffed with personnel, trained and qualified by the Massachusetts State Police, including a director, a captain, two lieutenants, four sergeants, twelve police officers, and five emergency dispatchers. Each officer is certified under Massachusetts General Law and has full police powers. The Department also employs security, student patrol, and administrative support staff, all working cooperatively to enhance the quality of life at Western New England University.

WNE Police Honor Guard
The WNE University Police Ceremonial Honor Guard was formed in 2009 to represent the University at a variety of events, both on and away from campus. The unit has participated in a variety of events from parades, funeral services for law enforcement and military personnel, and posting the colors in honor of the nation at the Boston Red Sox.
